Traditionally, you can get white, milk and dark chocolate, right?

In recent years, chocolate has been manifesting itself in many different shapes and forms (and flavours), from chilli to G&T, there is something for every taste.

However, it has been almost a century since anyone has invented a new strain of chocolate, to sit next to the three classic tastes.

This week, researchers in Switzerland have actually invented a new natural flavour to add to the old school list: Ruby.

It's the first time in 80 years that a new chocolate has been included on the list after white was inducted in 1937.

And, yes, the new flavour is PINK!

Barry Callebaut, famous chocolatier, has revealed the new flavour, describing it as "an intense sensorial delight. A tension between berry-fruitiness and luscious smoothness".

Emm, YUM!

The chocolate is made from the ruby cocoa bean (who knew that was a thing?) and the company has managed to draw the bean's natural flavours out, and colours, making it PINK.

So, there are no berries or colourings added to this delicious treat, it is naturally pink.

"The ruby bean is unique because the fresh berry-fruitiness and colour precursors are naturally present. The cocoa beans are sourced from different regions of the world.

"The bean has a specific set of attributes, which Barry Callebaut managed to unlock through an innovative process that took many years to develop."

"The fourth type in chocolate offers a totally new taste experience, which is not bitter, milky or sweet, but a tension between berry-fruitiness and luscious smoothness."

Peter Boone, Barry Callebaut's Chief Innovation and Quality Officer "Barry Callebaut has established itself as a pioneer and innovator in chocolate and cocoa, globally.

"Consumer research in very different markets confirms that Ruby chocolate not only satisfies a new consumer need found among Millennials - Hedonistic Indulgence - but also high purchase intent at different price points."

The chocolate has not yet been released to the public, but we're excited to try the pink treat!

How amazing is this?
