There comes a moment every woman experiences - and this can happen before or after you've become a mum - that of meeting a desperately adorable baby and/or toddler that isn't your own and going in for the obligatory cuddle.

You could be an auntie doting on your nieces and nephews or cooing at your friends first baby, but we've all been there. Who wouldn't want to cuddle said bundle of joy? It's a delight.

But the side of this that we rarely hear of is the rejection. The child that is beyond terrified to let you near him or her. And the sheer horror when we realise that we've actually made things worse.

Then comes the eyes, welling up pools of tears, and the agony of that lower lip wobble.

We've all felt it; that sinking sense of mild failure and you know what? Celebrities are not immune either.

Yep, so let's take a moment to feel for singer Selena Gomez who received one such toddler rejection during the week.

Appearing at a PUMA event in Los Angeles, the 25-year-old put a story on Instagram, during which stopped to hug a baby, who proceeded to turn away and scream - not a Gomez fan, obviously.

Selena exclaimed in horrified response: "I don’t know what to do!"

Same Selena Gomez, same.

It's mildly mortifying but has happened to ALL of us at least once.

And we can rest assured that, yes, it even happens to people like Selena Gomez, which is slightly reassuring.

The actress and musician is frequently in the headlines due to her advocacy of mental health.

She took a career break in 2016 after experiencing depression and anxiety as side effects of her recent lupus diagnosis, showing the importance of being attentive to our mental wellbeing and also underwent a kidney transplant (it was Selena’s best friend Francia Raisa who so generously donated her kidney to her).

"Selena gained a kidney, I was able to keep my little girl, but I also gained another daughter....thank you to everyone who was there for Sel, Francia and our families. We survived from all the love, prayers and God” said Selena's relieved mum Mandy Teefy at the time.
