Tennis ace Serena Williams decided not to find out if she was having a girl or a boy but she already has an inkling about what the gender of the baby is.

Serena told American Vogue that after successfully playing and winning the Australian Open, she thinks her little one is a girl.

“Two weeks after we found out, I played the Australian Open,” the proud mum-to-be explained.

“I was playing in 100-degree weather, and that baby never gave me any trouble. Ride or die. Women are tough that way”.

Although her pregnancy was a shock, she said: "Once I found out, something happened that surprised me,” she explained. “I became really calm. I thought you have to win (the Australian Open), but you’re allowed to lose because you have something to look forward to”.

Serena also opened up about the health implications her pregnancy has and her birth plan.

Because of a history of pulmonary embolisms following foot surgery in 2011, Serena must now inject herself with blood thinners every day as being pregnant increases the risk of a blood clot.

When it comes to the topic of birth, Serena said she is nervous about the pain.

“I’m not a spring chicken,” she remarked. “The one thing I really want is an epidural, which I know a lot of people are against, but I’ve had surgeries galore, and I don’t need to experience any more pain if I can avoid it”.

She added that after being a professional athlete for so long, it is hard for her to focus on giving her all to the baby when he or she arrives.

“The biggest thing is that I don’t really think I’m a baby person. Not yet", she admitted.

“That’s something I have to work on. “I’m so used to me-me-me, taking care of my health, my body, my career. I always ask, 'Am I going to be good enough?' ”

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is determined to return to the tennis court after having her baby.

“I used to think I’d want to retire when I have kids, but no. I’m definitely coming back.

“Walking out there and hearing the crowd, it may seem like nothing. But there’s no better feeling in the world. If anything, this pregnancy has given me a new power”.

We wish Serena the best of luck and can’t wait to find out if she’s right about having a girl.
