Was there ever a more perfect pairing than Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds? If we ever needed proof that these two are each other’s soulmates, then Ryan’s beautiful words about his other half have really driven it home.

The loved-up couple stepped out together for last night’s Met Gala in New York, and wowed as they posed up a storm on the red carpet – no surprises there! But it was Ryan’s touching words about his Green Lantern co-star that have set hearts a-flutter today.

After posing for a photo for the Humans of New York Instagram account, Ryan paid a touching tribute to Blake, with whom he has two daughters; two-year-old James and seven-month-old Ines.

Gushing over his wife of five years, the 40-year-old revealed the greatest life lesson she has taught him: empathy.

“She always responds with empathy. She meets anger with empathy. She meets hate with empathy. She’ll take the time to imagine what happened to a person when they were five or six years old. And she’s made me a more empathetic person,” he explained.

“I had a very fractured relationship with my father. Before he died, she made me remember things I didn’t want to remember. She made me remember the good times.”

All together now: awwww!

Needless to say, the adorable photo and quote has really struck a chord online, with thousands of people positively gushing over the couple, and Ryan’s devotion to his wife.

Of course, by now we are well used to Ryan’s public declarations of love for Blake. While the pair usually kept their relationship private, the star couldn’t help but gush over his wife following the birth of their first child, James.

During an interview on The Late Show, he told show host David Letterman: “I’m not one for vomiting declarations of sentiment out across the airwaves, but when we had that baby, I fell more in love with my wife than I’d ever been in my entire life. I couldn’t even believe it.”

And of course, who could forget his touching words to her while accepting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, when we got that famous first glance at their gorgeous children?

“I want to thank my wife, Blake…who is everything to me. You make absolutely everything in my life better. You’ve given me two of the most incredible children that I could ever have hoped to have,” he said.

“You’ve made me the father of my dreams when I thought I only had ‘fun uncle’ potential. You are the best thing – the best thing – that has ever happened to me, second only to this star. It’s the Hollywood Walk of Fame, cut me some slack here!”

We sincerely hope that these two keep inspiring us and give us those googly-eyed moments.
