With just over a week until the new year, we were confident we had reported on the last of 2015's shock splits, but unfortunately a recent announcement has dashed those hopes.

After just one year of marriage, Formula One driver, Jenson Button, and his fashion model wife, Jessica Michibata, have decided to call time on their relationship.

The pair, who tied the knot during a lavish ceremony in Hawaii at the end of 2014, have chosen to divorce, with sources insisting that the decision was mutual.

Speaking to the MailOnline, a spokesman for the 35-year-old F1 driver confirmed the sad news, saying: "Jenson and Jessica have decided to go their separate ways and it is very amicable. There is no one else involved."

It is understood that the pressure of Jenson's career and accompanying commitments took its toll on the couple who began dating in 2008 before becoming engaged on Valentine's Day 2014.

Alluding to the difficulties prior to the sad announcement, Jenson said: "I'm travelling so much with racing that I can't say 'I'm going to have a weekend off Formula 1 and come to Japan to see you,' it just doesn't happen like that with sport."

As the pair did not sign a prenuptial agreement, issues regarding finances have yet to be rectified, with the source revealing: "There are ongoing discussions between them about money, but it’s too early to say how it will pan out."

From Ben and Jen's split to Gwen and Gavin's divorce, 2015 has certainly been a sad time for some of our most-loved couples.
