She has found herself at the centre of drama over the past few months, after splitting from her husband of 10 years, Stephen Belafonte. It seems, however, that Mel B is doing just fine on her own.
The 42-year-old has opened up about family life after filing for divorce from producer Stephen, and admitted that the focus right now is on her children.
Speaking during a taping of America’s Got Talent, on which she is a judge, Mel confirmed that Phoenix, 18, Angel, 10, and five-year-old Madison are all doing ‘great’ and adjusting to their new circumstances.
“I just make them all listen to me. And they don’t always,” she joked.
“I was a single parent for a long time with Phoenix [her eldest child, with ex-husband and dancer Jimmy Gulzar] so I kind of learned that way, and mums always know best.”
When asked for her advice for fellow single mums, Mel was as candid as ever.
“There’s no advice that I could give. Every mother, every parent is different,” she replied.
“The number one rule is, you show your kid lots of love and respect, and you treat your kid how you want them to treat other people.” Sounds good to us, Mel!
2017 has been a somewhat testing year for Mel. News of her marriage split was confirmed in March, when divorce papers filed by the former Spice Girl were leaked to the press.
What followed has turned out to be a messy divorce battle, in which serious accusations of cheating and domestic abuse have been levelled at Stephen.
Mel succeeded in getting a temporary restraining order taken out against Stephen, who is currently only entitled to supervised visits with their daughter, Madison.
We’re glad to hear that Mel and her little ones are doing well after their ordeal.
