Sile Seoige has opened up in a candid interview about how she had made her peace with the possibility of never being in a relationship or having children before she welcomed her son.

The television presenter said she "made peace with the fact that I may never be in a relationship or have children", before meeting her new fiancé Damien O'Farrell in 2015.

Reaching a certain stage in her life, she had given up on love.

Explaining to VIP Magazine, the 39-year-old said:

"I had done a lot soul searching and I had genuinely made peace with the fact that I may never be in a relationship of having children. I suppose time was also ticking on too. But I also don't believe that you have to be in a relationship or have children to be defined as a woman. I think there are many ways of expressing creativity and feminine energy."

"I really believe that and I'm saying that as a woman with a fiancé, that sounds so funny, and a child now," she told the May edition of the magazine.

Seoige had previously wed Glen Mulcahy and the couple were married for three years.

The broadcaster praised her partner for being very “hands-on” and being “an incredible birthing partner” when their eight-month-old son Cathal was born.

"I'm very lucky, I suppose you just don't know how it's going to go because we haven't done this before, but from the get-go, Damien has been brilliant. I hope I'm not revealing too much by saying this, but he was also an incredible birthing partner," she said.

"I don't know how he did it, but he managed to make the back of the car really comfortable on the journey to the Coombe Hospital, even though I was like a wild caged animal roaring!

"I think he's one of those guys who was just destined to be a dad."

Sile was given the 'all clear' last year, after a diagnosis of thyroid cancer in 2012.

The battle with cancer means she appreciates every moment now and has given her a new lease on life.

As for becoming a new mum, she spoke to the Independent.ie about “doing her best” and speaks about the very relatable ups and downs that is all part and parcel with motherhood.

"You just do your best. Some days you feel like you’re nailing motherhood, other days you feel like you’re making a bit of a mess of it, but I think that’s just the way it is, and you’re kind of just on this constant hamster wheel of feeling like you’re having guilty moments and proud moments, and everything-in-between moments, so you’re just doing your best," she explained.

The mum-of-one said that she is trying to clamp down on the technology when she is around baby Cathal.

"I really try and put the phone away when I’m with him. I don’t always succeed, sometimes you have to answer your phone for your work, but I’m really aware that right now I’m trying to limit technology and certainly in the evening, we don’t watch TV anymore, the telly is off.

"We’re just turning off all stimulus as well when it comes to a certain time of the evening. I rarely have the TV on at home during the day."
