The internet went into meltdown last week following the news that much-loved One Direction member, Louis Tomlinson, is soon to become a dad for the first time.

There was a distinctly mixed reaction when it was revealed that the 23-year-old Doncaster-native, who split with long-term girlfriend Eleanor Calder in recent months, was set to welcome a child with close friend and LA stylist, Briana Jungwirth, in the not-too-distant future.

But while many social media users lamented the fact Louis and Briana were not in a relationship with each other, nor did they intend to enter into one together, Louis' mentor Simon Cowell has a distinctly different take on the situation.

Dad-of-one Simon, who recently lost his beloved mother Julie, opened up in a recent interview and insisted that Louis' impending fatherhood is not something to be lamented.

Recalling the moment he learned of the news, Simon said: "I told him, “I’ve received bad calls in my life but this is not one of them. This is your business but I’m here for you."

Speaking to Dan Wooton of The Sun, 55-year-old Simon admitted he did give Louis a few words of advice, but also reminded him that his circumstances were vastly different to most.

Recalling the conversation he had with the dad-to-be, the X Factor judge said: "I said to him, “You man up. You’re fortunate because you’re in a position to be able to look after the baby and not worry too much about that."

Reflecting on the controversy Louis and Briana's news has caused in social, digital and print media, the music mogul attempted to put the situation in perspective.

With a remarkably practical and down-to-earth attitude, Simon simply said: "He didn’t kill anyone. He got someone pregnant. It happens every day all over the world. Louis has got great family around him and, look, it’s a plus, not a negative."

We can only imagine how happy Louis is to have the support of Mr. Cowell.
