While all eyes have been on Jennifer Aniston since she announced her separation from her husband of two years, fellow actor Justin Theroux - in fact, the former couple released a joint statement confirming the split - Theroux is now finally taking some of the social media 'heat' as he announced his return to Instagram.

And his way of "getting over" the break-up with his former partner of seven years according to the general media? Why, playing with tiny, adorable puppies if you don't mind.

Yep, while we all have our different ways of getting over break-ups, we have to praise Theroux’s approach hanging out with puppies is sure to help heal a torn heart every single time.

Okay, so, we know that since the couple have been separated since last year, he isn't likely quite in the throes of despair; he's had time to adjust and take it in, but puppies people. We'll take it.

The actor broke his social media silence this week by sharing a number of photos of tiny puppies that he had been spending some time with at a shelter in Texas in the US.

“Another very inspiring visit with the incredible people and pups @austinpetsalive. I cannot understand how they do what they do, day after day, so consistently and lovingly to save so many dogs and cats.”

“I highly recommend going in and getting your nose bit by a toothless baby Pitbull,” he added.

Aniston – who doesn’t have an Instagram account – hasn’t publicly made any comments since they announced the separation, but plenty has been said - by total strangers - on her behalf, anyhow.

While we are all for Theroux and puppies and the light-heartedness of this whole thing, the difference in the narrative, generally, for the Mulholland Drive star in comparison to Aniston is striking, for so many reasons; it's partly why we've chosen to write his news story in such a manner, by way of highlighting this, for arguments sake.

In no Theroux piece today has this writer read about his marital status, not one article about how he'll need time to 'cope' with his newly single status or no headlines about how he has yet to have children.

And yet it remains the complete opposite for Aniston.

Theroux got to play with cute puppies by way of his heartbreak remedy, jokingly referred to as the 'Lonely Boy of Hollywood', and yet Jen "relied" on her friends to "get her through" the split.  He pretty much gets to resume life as normal and the sexist media frenzy has reduced the Friends alum to nothing more than a sniffle and "Poor Jen" (this may as well be her name).

With this attitude, we are doing nothing but helping to perpetuate harmful myths, which simply must end. The treatment of Aniston is flat-out insulting and gender-stereotyping at its very worst.

But maybe, maybe, just this once and to even out the score a tad, we'll let Theroux play with adorable dogs to 'get over' Jen - for she's had enough time in the scrutiny of the spotlight over the last two weeks.
