A South African couple have made headlines around the world this week, following the birth of their ‘extremely rare’ triplets.

According to a report by ABC News, same-sex couple Christo and Theo Menelaou’s triplets include two identical twins – and each parent is a biological father!

The amazing phenomenon occurred after both Christo and Theo used their sperm in the surrogacy process.

The couple – who have been together for nine years, and married for four – admitted that they initially wanted to adopt; however, they immediately hit a wall.

“We were strongly advised by the social worker that our chances of succeeding in getting an adoption was very small, considering there was a large demand for people wanting children…If you’re same-sex, it’s a mission,” explained Christo.

And so, the couple turned to surrogacy instead – and, thankfully, it was a success.

On 2nd July, Christo and Theo’s triplets were born. Baby Joshua weighed in at 4lbs, while twins Zoe and Kate tipped the scales at 3lbs 1oz, and 2lbs 9oz, respectively.

According to the Menelaous’ doctor, the chances of having identical twins among triplets is ‘extremely rare’.

The new fathers are besotted with their three bundles of joy, and are getting a helping hand from day and night nurses.

Congratulations to the family.
