I'll start my review by saying that Specsavers in Tallaght were really on the ball!! I had a call from them to arrange an appointment before I even knew I had been chosen to do the trial!! LOL

They called when I was busy and were very obliging about calling me back at another time the following day. They explained to me that the best time for children to do eye tests is first thing in the morning after breakfast when they wouldn't be tired or cranky. They also explained on the phone that because my daughter was only 4, they wouldn't be able to perform all the steps of the eye test as they would with an older child or adult. I told them I had worn glasses since I was 2 and they said they would be able to carry out a number of tests and if there was a problem with her eyes, they would refer me to an eye specialist.

When we arrived, the lady who had made the appointment for me came over as soon as she heard my name and both herself and the girl on the desk went out of their way to make my daughter feel comfortable and explain to her what was going to happen. She is very shy at the best of times and by the time she left the shop, she was all talk with the staff! Another lady took me in to start the eye exam and explained every step of the way to me. When it was my daughter's turn, she changed her wording to explain to my daughter what was happening and what she was to do during the exam in a way my daughter understood. After this I was offered a free hearing test, which I took them up on.

We were then taken back to the waiting area, where the lady from the desk came back to talk to my daughter again and check how she was getting on. We were less than a minute waiting before the optician called us in. She was very nice and my daughter seemed quite comfortable with her and she also explained everything to my daughter in a way she would understand. She had a booster seat for her to sit up on and had a children's version of the eye charts for her to pick out numbers and pictures instead of letters. There was only one part of the full exam they didn't perform on my daughter and that's because it's not necessary for children. She went through my medical history about my eye problems and operation and reassured me that my daughter didn't have to same problem, but recommended I bring her back annually just for a check up. My eye exam was explained very well to me and I found the tests very comfortable. Both exams were explained in detail to me. We were there for an hour in total, but it didn't feel like that at all! It turns out I needed to change my glasses prescription. It was explained why and when I should be wearing the glasses. I was brought outside to another lady who spent quite a bit of time helping me choose the right glasses for me (style, size, shape, colour, etc.). I was then brought around to a seating area to order them. The lady went into great detail about all the options available to me in regards to the lenses, etc. An appointment was made there and then to come in the following week to collect the glasses. When we were leaving, my daughter was given a bag with stickers and magazines in it to take home with her. I got a call later that evening from the lab in relation to the lenses I had chosen and was given a number of options over the phone to save me calling back into the shop. A couple of days later I got another call to say the glasses were ready and an earlier appointment was made to collect them. When I went to collect them, a huge fuss was made over both my daughters and I was taken in immediately. I appeared to be taken in ahead of a large crowd waiting to be seen to in the waiting area Big smile I tried my glasses on and the lady went to great lengths to make sure I was happy with my glasses and said I could call back any time if I had any problems or needed the glasses tightened.

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. The staff were all very nice and accommodating.

There is a great selection of glasses in each price category to choose from and there seems to be a style/colour for everybody. As my daughter didn't need glasses, I didn't take a huge amount of time looking at childrens' glasses, but there appeared to be a good variety there too.

I would definitely book an eye test there again for both myself and my children as it was a comfortable and unhurried experience for us. I would have no hesitation in buying glasses from them again either. They really make sure you're 100% happy before you buy and when you collect your glasses.

My 5 year old daughter and I went to Specsavers,
Bandon last week for our eye tests. We also had my restless 2 yr old with us.
Making the appointment was v easy-they contacted me asking would I like to make
an appointment then or ring back. The staff there were so friendly, and
brilliant with children. 1st we had the eye test, I had to look into
3 different machines for different tests, my daughter only needed to look into
one. I thought that she might be a bit nervous but Debi was brilliant with her
and it helped that she saw me being tested 1st.

Then we were moved to a different room for the sight
tests with Marie. My 2 yr old got all upset so my little girl was tested 1st
while I tried to calm her sister. I pushed her in her chair and it looked like she might doze off so Debi offered to take her but as soon as Mia realised someone else was pushing her she freaked! I had to leave to change her in the hopes that that would settle her but Gemma was in
her element. They treated her like a princess and she wasn’t bothered that I
had to leave. When I came back, Mia was still cranky so we went for another walk - to the toy shop, where a little bee put a smile on her face. All was well when we returned until Marie turned off the lights for one of Gemma's tests and Mia started crying again! We were going to leave
my test till another day but then Marie spoke to her and it was like someone
flicked a switch and she became her usual happy self again.Whew! They definitely won't forget our visit in a hurry!

While I was tested, Debi entertained the girls by drawing amazing pictures for them to colour. Marie explained everything and the
check-up was very thorough. I was worried about my bloodshot eyes, so she did an extra test to rule out any problems. I already need glasses for driving. I
chose to keep my old frames and have them re-glazed, and also to get some
prescription sunglasses with the amazing Polaroid lenses. They had a large
range of frames. Debi was like a personal stylist, picking frames that she thought would suit my colouring and face shape. I eventually settled on a Gok Wan pair that I’m very happy with. I thought that Gemma would get sunglasses if she didn’t need prescription glasses but there was no mention of this and as they had been so patient with my cranky toddler, I didn’t want to make a fuss. They let me keep my old glasses till the new lenses were ready. I then had to drop my glasses in and leave them for 2 days. They were great with follow up phone calls telling me when things were ready.

When we went to collect my glasses, the girls and I got a great welcome. Gemma had been asking on the way there if we'd see Debi and Marie again, they had made a great impression! Deirdre fitted my sunglasses while another girl got sweets and little Specsaver "bugs" for the girls.

I would definitely recommend Specsavers, Bandon. The
staff were all so welcoming and friendly and were FANTASTIC with my children

A Specsavers representative contacted me on my mobile on a Tuesday morning from the Cavan Branch. She explained that she was ringing to arrange an appointment for me and my daughter. As I work during the week I explained that I would prefer a weekend appointment. This was no problem and an appointment was arranged for the Saturday of the same week, with my appointment scheduled for 1.20pm and my daughter’s appointment for 1.40pm. Appointment was easy to schedule and accommodating for a working mother.

I received a reminder text from Spec savers the day before the appointment. The reminder text gave the following information. “Hi Miss Small, your appointment is booked for 13:40 on 28 Jul. We look forward to seeing you then. Specsavers Opticians. Tel 0494327200. Very handy to get this reminder as my weekends are normally quite booked up and I can easily forget about appointments like this.

We arrived at specs savers around 10 minutes before our due time. My daughter Nadine was a little bit anxious as she had never had an eye test before and therefore did not know what to expect. We were greeted by friendly staff that took our name and pointed us to a waiting area. I was then called in for the preliminary eye tests. I had 3 processes where I had to look into machines. One of the machines blows 3 puffs of air into your eye and I jumped each time which in turn made Nadine a little more anxious. The last machine took 3 photos of my eyes and there was flashing for this process. During my tests, Nadine was very inquisitive and asked the girl loads of questions, she was very friendly and answered all of Nadine’s questions. Nadine was then called in for this process, it did take me a few minutes to settle her as these machines are quite intimating to a young person. My mistake was that I should have let her do these tests first therefore she would not have seen me jumping and she would not have known what to expect. Luckily enough she did not have to do the machine test where they blow three puffs of air into your eyes and she was fine with the other 2 machines. 1sthurdle over!

We were only back out in the waiting area when the optician called us in together for our appointment. This time I let Nadine go first. The optician was extremely friendly and very polite, he spoke away to Nadine and she was completely relaxed. He asked me if I had any concerns regarding Nadine’s eyesight and I explained that my only issue was when she was reading her music she looked strained but I was not sure if this was due to eyesight or just the fact that she was trying to figure out the notes. A number of tests were completed on Nadine’s eyes, including the shining of a light in her eyes and the reading of letters from the board. Nadine was completely relaxed and happy during the full eye examination. The eyesight result was that she had a 20/20 vision! What a relief, there was that underlying worry with me because I have worn glasses for reading since I was her age, so this was great news for us.

My own eye test followed, this was done with the routine tests and I was asked if I had saw or felt any difference with my eyesight since my last eye test which would have been 12 months previous to this. There was only a slight change in one of my eyes so my prescription would be changing abit.

When the eye examination was completed we were then brought out and Nadine set upon choosing her sunglasses. She had a great range to choose from. The choices available consisted of Donald Duck, Garfield, Ms Naughty, Sherk, Star wars, Action man and many more. They were colorful and appealing to kids. It was explained to us that she could pick any frames and they would insert the sunglasses lens into the frame for her. Nadine is a massive Simpsons fan so or course she picked the Simpsons frames.

For myself again there was a great selection of frames to choose from. The frames ranged from €29 up to €250. The brands consisted of Animal, Jasper Conran, French Connection, Roxy , Red or Dead any many more. Once again I was torn as to whether to stick to full frames or half frames, and should I go abit more modern with my glasses rather than the normal conservative look I usually go for when picking out frames. I decided on Red or Dead frames which had a colorful print on the legs of the glasses. I was very happy with my choice. They look strong and of good quality. Whilst I was there I took the opportunity to ask the optician to tighten the leg of my prescription sunglasses that I previously had got in the store. This was no problem and only took a few minutes.

Once the frames were picked out for both me and Nadine we took a seat while the optician filled in the details. The frame I had chosen was not in stock in the color I required therefore there would be a week waiting time for the glasses. It was also explained to Nadine that they need to put the sunglasses lens into the frame she had picked. She picked the level of darkness that she wanted the lens to be. It was explained that as soon as both pairs of glasses were ready we would be contacted. Nadine was given a large sticker to wear and we left the store just after 2.20pm. All in all it took just over an hour for both of our appointments.

I received a phone call 3 days later to inform me that Nadine’s Glasses were ready to collect, as she is under the age of 12 she would need the glasses fitted by an optician. I decided that since mine were not ready yet I would collect both together and asked the agent to ring me when they were ready.

I received a phone call on the Friday to inform me that the glasses were ready to collect. I arranged an appointment for 2.40pm the following day. Again there were no issues making an appointment.

We went back to specsavers on the Saturday and were seen to almost immediately. We were given our glasses and the usual tests were completed to ensure that the glasses were comfortable. An optician checked Nadine to ensure that the glasses were fitting correctly. This fitting in total only took about 10 minutes.

We were absolutely delighted with the service we received from Specsavers in Cavan, there was a great range of frames to choose from and the staff are very friendly. We will definitely go back. Nadine is delighted with her sunglasses and I have to take them off her at night or she would try to sleep in them!

Thanks to MummyPages and Specsavers for the opportunity for this trial.

Thanks so much for allowing us to take part in this trial MummyPages and Specsavers.
My daughter and I were at the Nutgrove Specsavers. We were contacted by the manager to make our appointment, and it was super efficient. We called in last week and were greeted by that manager, who made us feel really welcome and very much at ease. My daughter was a little nervous going, as she didn’t know what to expect, and when I mentioned this to him, he sat down with her and explained everything in a really easy way for her to understand. By the end of the conversation they were best friends. He also explained what tests I would be doing so that I was clear on that too.
The manager did some preliminary tests with us, and we then went to the waiting area, and after just a few minutes we were brought in to meet the optician, who again took time to put my daughter at ease. My daughter’s tests were first, so it was up on the big chair with a booster cushion. She had to read from a number’s reading chart. She passed with flying colours, and I was delighted.
I was up next (no booster cushion), and went through the full exam, if I’m honest, I was a bit nervous myself, I don’t like eye exams, having had them previously. But this one was incredibly easy, I’m not sure if it was the methods that Specsavers use, or just that the optician was so patient and attentive, that made it so much easier. I didn’t mention I was nervous, but I think it was obvious, and so she assured me what was happening at every step of the way which made it really easy for me.

And thankfully, I didn’t need reading glasses, which was a great relief, because I did feel that I was straining at times. However, she did identify that my eyes are seriously dry and that they would benefit from over the counter treatment. She explained my red permanently blood shot eyes are as a result of a lack of tears. One week on the treatment and I now have white eyes – very simple and a bonus to seeing if I needed reading glasses!
In total, we were there for less than an hour, and it was a really pleasant experience, made so, by the tremendously helpful and attentive staff. There was no rushing through or leaving details out, my daughter and I knew exactly what was going on, when and why. They have a great team at the Nutgrove Specsavers, and I would highly recommend them.
We were both delighted to be leaving without needing glasses, although as we were leaving we did have a quick look at the selection of glasses available, and there seems to be something that would suit everyone, with tonnes of choice. My daughter seemed disappointed not to be leaving with the Hello Kitty glasses!!
I would highly recommend Specsavers and wouldn’t hesitate to book an eye test with them again in the future. They were professional, friendly and efficient, and extremely good at what they do.
Thanks again for the opportunity.

On 23rdJuly I was delighted to get an email from Sue in Mummypages to say I and my child had been selected to review the services of Specsavers. I wear contact lenses all the time and Donnacha (who's 5) tends to sit too close to the television so I wasn’t sure was it just general child behaviour or something else. I had always meant to make an appointment to get his eyes tested but kept putting it off as I thought it would be too much of a chore. But I was wrong. Within days of getting the email I received a call from Specsavers in Galway to set up an appointment. One was made for the earliest time I could get into them which was 8thAugust at 11am. I got there a half hour early so rather than hang around I checked to see if they could see us sooner and thankfully we did get in about 15 minutes before I was due. While waiting, Donnacha was getting a bit antsy as he is liable to do so someone came over with some stickers for him. He was delighted, a small touch but it kept him quiet for a while. The staff were very friendly, and good with Donnacha. Everyone who dealt with him chatted easily to him. The initial test was to check the health of the eyes, everything was explained as we did it. You might think it would be hard to keep a 5 year old interested in this but it’s quick and in fact he loved looking through the eyes of the machine, wondering what he would see each time. He seemed to enjoy confirming that he could see what the lady told him he would. After this short check up, we went into see the Optician. I went first. It took about 15 minutes in all I would say and there’s nothing to it. I have done tests in other Opticians and I have to say this one felt more thorough. I was shown the images of my eye, the vessels etc and it was explained to me that it was a healthy image and what it would look like if it wasn’t healthy. After going through all the tests the Optician told me what my prescription was and how he thought my eyes would progress in years to come. I wear my contact lenses all the time and because of this have a cloud on my eye due to lack of oxygen. It’s nothing that I notice as it’s not in my line of vision but one could come up over my pupil and affect vision further. He explained that by wearing glasses it would help my eyes recover. I had been told this before by other Opticians but no one had explained that I could get one over my pupil. He gave me information on the glasses they had, mentioning that they had glasses for €29. Then after me, it was Donnacha’s turn. I was a bit concerned prior to the appointment that he would get bored, wouldn’t do as he was asked etc but actually it couldn’t have gone better. Again, he loved looking through all the various machines, and seeing what he was meant to see. He was delighted with himself when he was asked to read letters in a book for the Optician (to check if reading glasses were required) and he was able to read the full words. The Optician was full of praise for him and he was chuffed. Then the best bit of all came when he had to put 3d glasses on and say which, from a line of animals, jumped out the page at him. To be honest I can’t remember what this checked for, but this was his favourite part. Again after the test was fully done, the Optician explained what his result was and that it was normal for a child of his age as the eyes are still developing. He told us when we needed to come back again and that was it. Easy peasy. I was the only one needing glasses so we needed to head upstairs to look at the selection. Now, there isn’t a vast selection in the Specsavers in Galway, but having said that they would have all the most popular shapes. They also have glasses in all price ranges. They don’t have very many designer ones but having been in and out of Opticians over the years trying to find a pair that suit me, I believe that most designer glasses are pretty much all the same so I didn’t feel too hard done by. They don’t have a huge selection for children either but again they have the ones, plain and colourful, that would suit most children. I found a pair I liked which I didn’t think I would because as I say I’ve been trying to find a pair that suit me for a few years now. When I made my choice, again it was an easy process. The girl said she might have them for me the same day, rang down to the lab and confirmed that would be ready in a couple of hours. I wasn’t able to hang around for them however so I picked them up the next day. This is the quickest I’ve ever gotten a pair of glasses, previously I’ve found it takes at least a week. When I picked them up they were bang on. I wore them out of the shop and they felt fine, a great fit. If I’m not happy with them, if they feel loose or too tight, I can just go back and they’ll refit them, not a problem. All in all, I was very happy with the service provided. I would go back and bring my other children too, when the time comes. For some reason I always believed that the service here may not be as good as with individual Opticians but I couldn’t have been more wrong. They examined and explained everything to us thoroughly, made my child feel at ease and provided glasses in super quick time. What more can you ask?

My 7 yr old Aoibhe and I went to Specsavers Waterford for the trial.
I got a call from specsavers offering me an appointment but had to ring back to check when I was free. This was no problem and was given an appointment for the day I requested. They text me the day before which was a very handy reminder especially as it was a bank holiday Monday.
It was Aoibhe's first eye test and the girl that greeted us put her at ease by giving her a magazine, stickers and a pen. She took me for my pre test first and Aoibhe had the choice to stay in wating area or come with me which she did. This showed her what would be happening to her so would suggest anyone who has a nervous child to have an eye test first so child can see what will happen . Aoibhe then had her pre eye test and was at ease as she was with me when I had mine.

Then we were taken back to waiting area but our names were called out before we got a chance to sit down. The lady who tested us was very nice and asked Aoibhe did she want to go first but Aoibhe wanted me to go which was no problem.
I had my test and was told that I had a slight prescription and may need glasses in a year or two. Aoibhe then had her test and her sight was perfect. The girl went through everything even showing us the pictures that had been taking of the inside of our eyes.
We were then finished and will be kept on file and called for eye tests when required.
Have no problem recommending Specsavers Waterford for anyone to take kids to as they were all lovely but did have an unhappy girl as I had read the email sent to me as Glasses would be provided for taking part in the trial and if glasses were not required that Sunglasses could be picked.

I received a call from the Henry St branch even before I knew I had been selected for the trial. Good start. I made the appointment for 2 days later. The service was very efficient from the reception staff to the final fitting. The wait time for the appointment for the eye test was quick. The eye test was very thorough and everything was explained in detail. Choosing the frames was a daunting stff but 2 staff offered their help and this was a great help. Fitting the frames and lenses was fast and efficient. Again a lot of additional information and advice was given. The glasses were available for collection the following day. The fit was checked again. Overall a very efficient and friendly service. I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

I got a call from Specsavers Balbriggan the day after I found out I was taking part in the trial but as I was due to go into hospital for an operation and recovery took alot longer than expected I am really glad I could do the trial and write this review : )

Making the appointment was very easy and they fitted me in at a convient time. on the day myself and my daughter Lucy (9) arrived about 10 mins early but I was welcomed very quickly and was taken into begin our eye tests. I went first and I did 3 tests 1 being a test for Glaucoma, the machine blows 3 puffs of air into the eye my daughter got very nervous about this but she was glad that kids didnt need to have it done and she gladly sat down and did her 1 test that she need to do.

Next we went into a different room with the optican and began my series of tests with charts and lights this takes about 10 mins and my daughter who knew she needed glasses was very apprehensive of having her test finished got upset but the Optican told us we could have a break and go wander about the shop and have a look at all the lovely range of kids glasses they had. Matt showed us the range and he was very nice and calm with Lucy and eventually Lucy picked out a lovely pair so we headed back into tjhe Optican who continued the tests with Lucy. She was very patient and did everything slowly and made sure Lucy understood everything she was doing, it was all over very quickly and Lucy was delighted with her choice of glasses!

I picked out a lovely pair of sunglasses and Matt said Lucys glasses would be ready in 2daysand my Sunglasses in 3-4 days.

Two days later we got a call to say both glasses were ready for collection. the following day myself and Lucy collected them and Lucy loved her new pair of designer glasses and is really looking forward to going back to school and wearing them alot more : )

We both really had a great experience with Specsavers Balbriggan and would definately recommend it to my friends and family.

Thank you Mummypages and all the lovely staff in Specsavers Balbriggan.

Good Morning All,

Firstly id like to apolgies for the late reply as my internet / laptop have been acting up for some time now and with my husband away I wasnt able to fix it til he returned.

Specsavers Navan was were I went. Myself and my Daughter Alice (13) won the won the competition and I have to give congrats to Specsavers in Navan.

We started our appoints at 11 o clock for me and 11.30 for Alice, both of us were seen on arrival at 11am and finsihed our initial eye test at 11.15 we were both sent back out into the waiting area to be seen by the optition. The place was busy id say every one getting sorted for back to school etc however this didnt stop them being effecient as ever. We werent given special treatment just because a review was looming and have to say everyone in the waiting room including my self and Alice were treated one by one quickly and effeciently..

By 11.40 we were brught into the optition together and given our final examination. I have been for eye tests before so knew what to expect however this was Alices first visit and she was a little nervoius, the optition noticed this and talked her through everyting and put her strait at ease, what a lovley man he was, she loved his attention to detial and the fact he showed her exactly what he was doing and why all the way through.

After the test was complete it was advsied that Alice had perfect vision nice and strong and wouldn't need another test for at least 2 years however due to the fact she uses a Laptop for school rather than books he avsied her on some daily upkeep, keeping hydrated and cleaning the eye's regularly. I on the ther hand requied stonger vision glasses as my eyes had deteriorated since the 5 years or so since I got my last "reading glasses".

We were then sent out to pick some lovely sun glasses for Alice and some nice lenses for myself, on request they also were able to put a tint and new lenses into an old pair of glasses i had for outdoor reading which I was absoultly delighted with.

All in all the we had a lovely time in Specsavers and without over doing it we were made feel comfortable and special without taking away from other customers which was important to me as I went in hoping we wudnt get special treatment just because of the reason we were their. I have been back to specsavers with my son twice since our appointment (who has his glasses since 18 months old and is now over 3 years old) and as with our winning appointment I had a very effecient and professional experience.

Well done and thank you again to all the staff at Specsavers Navan and we look forward to many more years in dealing with your branch. X

I was really happy with the way me and my daughter were treated in Specsavers. I don’t have bad eyesight, but my husband does, and so I was worried about my little one. Given that both of us had never been before, we were both a little anxious, I suppose becuase we didn’t know what to expect.

We arrived at the shop, and we were greeted warmly, and brought through, where we were both sat down and told all about what would happen. My little girl was made feel really comfortable, and all her questions were answered. I felt immediately better. We waited for a few minutes and the optician called us in. The tests were done on my little one first, and throughout the whole procedure she was told what was happening and encouraged the whole time. I have to say, Specsavers obviously know what they are doing when it comes to kids, there wasn’t a peep out of my little one, but when she started to appear nervous, she was put at ease and nothing was too much trouble. And fantastically at the end of it, she didn’t need glasses.
I was up next, and went through the tests, which were really very easy (made me wonder what I was so nervous about!!). I didn’t need glasses either.
We both left the shop and went for a treat, and my little girl didn’t stop taking about it, calling it her eye adventure Big smile. The staff were brilliant at Specsavers, and I would definitely recommend going to them. They are incredibly efficient (in total we were probably there about 40/50 mins) and patient. Very professional.
Thumbs up!
Thank you MummyPages
