While many mums-to-be are lucky enough to enjoy that pregnancy ‘glow’, there are some pregnant women who never get to experience that wonderful feeling, due to certain illnesses and conditions.

One famous face who has spoken candidly about one of the negative side-effects of her pregnancy is Claire Sweeney, who gave birth to son Jaxon last year.

The former Brookside star, who recently split from long-term partner Daniel Reilly, revealed this week that her pregnancy triggered eczema that left her with dry skin patches all over her body while she carried her son.

According to MailOnline.com, Claire had suffered with the skin condition since 2000, when a time of major change and stress led to flare-ups. While she was able to control the condition by using medical treatments at the time, it was a different case when she was pregnant with Jaxon.

“Everyone goes on about pregnant women glowing, well I had to deal with severely dry skin and I had dry patches all over my body,” she admitted.

Afraid of trying out any creams or ointments containing parabens, Claire was eventually able to control the flare-ups with a re-hydrating cream.

While she may not have experienced that ‘glow’, Claire admits that she wouldn’t change her pregnancy for the world.

“Despite some complications, I did love being pregnant. As a woman, it felt beautiful and I learned a lot about myself during those months. You bond with your baby so much in advance of its birth, so much so that I was bursting with joy when Jaxon arrived,” she said.

Claire welcomed baby Jaxon in October of last year.
