When the extended Kardashian and Jenner families rushed to be by Lamar Odom's bedside following his unforeseen hospitalisation earlier this month, critics were quick to slam the family, suggesting they were exploiting the sport star's downfall for their own gain.

Speaking out in defence of the reality TV family who are no strangers to controversy, former *NSYNC member, Lance Bass, has insisted their intention were born of nothing but concern for Khloé's estranged husband.

Speaking to Us Weekly this week, the 36-year-old singer revealed he had been in the company of the family following the heartbreaking events of this month and was adamant that their support impacted positively on Lamar's progress.

"I was just over at Kris' house the other day and, I mean, they put their lives on hold," he revealed while chatting with reporters this weekend.

Acknowledging the famous clan's controversial reputation, he continued: "I give it up to those girls. Love them or hate them, they really stepped up to the plate and saved his life."

Commenting on the relationship Kris Jenner shares with the former LA Lakers star, Lance explained: "It's devastating. This is like Kris' son and it's really sad."

Despite the negative press attention, the family, who celebrated Kim's baby shower this weekend, are determined to think positively and focus on Lamar, with Lance saying: "He's improving daily, which is great. They have high hopes."

We hope Lamar's condition continues to improve.
