There has been an outpouring of love and well-wishes this morning, following the news that legendary British actress Jean Alexander has passed away at the age of 90.
Alexander, best known for her iconic turn as Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street, is said to have passed away peacefully in hospital, just days after celebrating her birthday.
A BAFTA winner who regularly appeared on the ‘Best Loved Actress’ lists, Alexander played the role of Hilda on Corrie for 23 years. She later went on to light up the screen in another classic, Last of the Summer Wine.
Tributes have been pouring in since news of the star’s passing broke late last night, with Coronation Street stars leading the way.
Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster in the soap, took to Twitter to hail Alexander as ‘a wonderful woman’ and ‘an amazing and talented actress’.
