She became a mum to her first child in 2014, and it appears to have been a very eventful year for Melanie Slade and her England international footballer husband, Theo Walcott.

Mum Melanie appeared on ITV’s Lorraine chat show today to discuss her new role as mum to the couple’s son Finley, and to open up on the highs and lows of the past year.

One of the subjects that the 25-year-old spoke candidly about was her and husband Theo’s terror after discovering that little Finley had to undergo heart surgery at just eight weeks old, to correct a defect.

“When they did a routine check they found that he had a murmur on his heart. That can be normal at first, but it should sort itself out after 24 hours but it didn’t, and so then they knew there was something going on in the heart,” said Melanie.

Recalling the waiting time while Finley was undergoing surgery, Melanie told Lorraine: “He was gone for two hours overall and it was the longest two hours.”

Thankfully, their little one is now thriving, and thoughts have turned toward giving him a little brother or sister.

Praising husband Theo as an ‘amazing dad’, Melanie said that the couple don’t want to wait too long before expanding their family.

We’re so glad to hear that their son is doing so well. It sounds like it won’t be too long before we’re hearing the pitter-patter of tiny feet again!
