After the birth of a baby it is so easy to put things on the back burner as you adjust to your new role and get used to your lack of sleep. However, having a baby around the house doesn’t mean you have to give up on your normally organised self - it is possible to stay a little organised at least is sofar as that you never have a no-nappies-left scenario.

While having a baby is a life changing event and you will still be suffering some of the affects of your baby brain these five tips will help you stay organised.

Plan the night before

Write down what you need to do before you head to bed. This way as soon as you wake up in the morning you will know exactly what has to be done and you won’t spend the first few hours stressed over the amount of jobs that need to be done.

Have a do list

Write down everything you need to do that day, including things like getting breakfast and having a shower. While it might seem a little daunting looking at all the tasks you need to do, the satisfaction you will feel as you tick them off will be worth it.

Have one bag for everything

There is no point having a handbag, a baby bag and a bag with a change of clothes because you are definitely going to forget at least one when you leave the house. Have one bag that does all three and keep it clean and free of clutter. Every week have a look through it and check to make sure you have enough nappies, cream, clothes and wipes and take out any old receipts, tissues and cosmetics that have fallen to the bottom. Remember, a clean bag equals a clean mind.

Stick to your calendar

Get a really big calendar with plenty of space around the dates and write down everything that needs to be done for as far into the future as you can think, and put it in an area where you will see it all the time. Things like doctor appointments, car tax payments, lunch dates, family outings and school appointments are easily forgotten but not if they are written in plain view.

Give everything a home

Make sure everything has a place or an area of the house where it belongs so you will always know where to find it - well that's if you have actually taken the time to put it in the right place first off. It will also mean that when it comes to tidying up you'll be a whole lot quicker as you will know where to find things.
