When Valerie Watts held a garage sale, she didn’t think anybody would be interested in buying her deceased son’s cot; however, while whe was hesitant when Gerard Kumpula asked could he buy it, she eventually sold it to him.

Valerie had been devastated when she delivered a stillborn baby boy, Noah, last July, and she had not yet been ready to let go of the baby items that had been waiting for him.

Valerie explained how Gerald’s wife had asked her about the baby items: “His wife was looking through ... some of the baby clothes and asked how old my son was since I don’t use the crib anymore. And I told her he had passed in July.”

Gerald, who is a carpenter, took an interest in the cot and wanted to use it to rebuild something. However, when his wife told him the story behind the cot, he decided to something incredible for the grieving mum.

Gerald rebuilt the cot into a beautiful memorial bench for Noah, so that his mum, Valerie, can keep this special reminder of her son forever.

When Gerald presented little Noah’s mum with the bench, she was overcome with emotion, saying: “It’s amazing, and there’s good people out there. There’s proof.”
