The entertainer, who is survived by his wife and two kids, had been battling a progressive lung condition, according to a statement released by his family.
“We are heartbroken to share the news that Keith Chegwin sadly passed away following a long-term battle with a progressive lung condition, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which rapidly worsened towards the end of this year," the statement reads.
“Keith died peacefully at home shortly after midnight on the 11th of December. His wife Maria, his daughter Rose and his son Ted were by his side.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Severn Hospice for the kindness, support and care they have shown us all over the last few weeks.

The most I’ve ever laughed was the episode of Extras with Keith Chegwin being unable to separate acting from real life

RIP Keith Chegwin. Sad to hear this. He always used to tweet me back, and was great fun. More like him and this world would be a fine place to live. https://t.co/0a0FtTUsOV
