If you’re an avid sports fan, then it’s highly likely you will want your child to follow in your footsteps and pledge their allegiance to your chosen team.

And if your child suddenly decides to switch their loyalty to a rival team, you might do everything in your power to stop them, right?

Confronted with that exact situation, one wily dad and keen Arsenal supporter decided to tackle the issue head-on, and compose a letter to his young son, Charlie, in which he purported to be Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, and player Alexis Sanchez.

Urging young Charlie to re-think his decision to switch his allegiance to Manchester United and Liverpool, Paul Gardiner reminded his son of Arsenal’s achievements, and even managed to sneak in a little reminder that parents always know best.

Taking to social media to inform followers of his plight and subsequent solution, Paul shared the letter with Twitter users who applauded Paul’s devotion to the cause.

Under the guise of Arsene and Alexis, Paul wrote: “Dear Charlie, I spoke to your dad this morning and was upset to learn you want to support Liverpool FC and Manchester FC like your friends.”

“Both myself and the players, especially Alexis Sanchez who I know is your favourite player, love having you as an Arsenal supporter and hope you carry on supporting us for many years along with your Daddy.”

”I have told your daddy to bring you and your sister Evie to watch a game at Arsenal soon. Alexis has told me he can’t wait for you to see him play and he will try to score lots of goals for you.”

Finishing the letter to an unassuming young Charlie, Paul signed off “Listen to your daddy when he says Arsenal is the best – he is right!” Kind regards, Arsene Wenger and Alexis Sanchez.”

Well, he certainly made his point very clear, but we wonder if it had the desired effect!
