A teenager who braved icy water in order to raise funds for the Starfish Pool Appeal has been praised by the South West Seals wildswimming network.

15 year-old Charlie Halliwell took the plunge to raise money for a new hydrotherapy pool for children with disabilities in Claremont School in Redland.

Susan Higgins of South West Seals spoke of her admiration for Charlie, saying:"He turned up for training every weekend without fail. Cold water swimming can be hazardous. Charlie really proved himself."

Charlie's proud mum, clearly overjoyed for her son, said: "Charlie completed the maximum distance of 200 metres, which for someone so young is amazing."

The team of 20 swimmers completed a total distance of 2,480 metres in icy 6 degree water.

Well done to all involved!
