The Garrihy sisters and their mum open up about family life

It's fair to say that the Garrihy sisters - Aoibhin, Ailbhe and Doireann - are immensely talented and beyond stunning.

And when we met them - along with their mum Clare, their close bond is easy to see.

The foursome are set to take part in Vhi's Mini Marathon, which will take place on Bank Holiday Sunday June 2, at 2pm and they cant wait to do the 10K together.

As Doireann says, ''It's a great day there's people from all over the place of different backgrounds, shapes, size, ages...''

Aoibhin chimes in, ''When you see the sea of colour, everyone with their own t-shirt on and their own reason for being there, there's something emotional about it.''

While all four women are active and exercise regularly, Aoibhin is also trying to juggle it all with motherhood, after giving birth to her first child, Hanorah, in the summer of 2018.

She unfortunately experienced backlash on social media when she was pregnant for going on hikes but says that thankfully, it's died off.

She said, ''I've never experienced anything like it. You know best, when it comes to your child.''

She calls County Clare her home with husband John Burke but still visits Dublin once or twice a week.

It's the slower pace of life in the country that keeps her there, as she wants to raise Hanorah in that kind of environment.

She said, ''It's lovely for her, the dogs, my mental health, everything. Being by the sea is like therapy.''

Her mum Clare adds that the girls all spent time in Clare growing up, and that they have fond memories of that time.

Aoibhin said, ''Those times in the Aran Island and Inis Oirr are probably our best memories growing up.''

It's clear that the three girls adore their mum and she gets teary-eyed when she speaks of watching them grow up.

She said, ''I was young having my kids. Communication is key. I never forced stuff out of them, but I had my ways of extracting stories.''

She continued, ''But above all, praise and encouragement. Tell them they're brilliant. And always be honest wih them .''

With three amazing women as her daughters, she has definitely done something right and it's a pleasure to meet a family so close-knit and supportive of each other.
