His family was left devastated seven years ago, when son Jett passed away at the age of 16 from a seizure. Now, John Travolta has opened up about how he and wife Kelly Preston got through that heartbreaking time.

Jett, who lived with autism and Kawasaki disease, died during a family holiday at Christmastime, in 2009.

A year later, the family welcomed third child Ben, and the now-five-year-old’s arrival into the world provided the ‘glue’ the Travolta family needed to put themselves back together.

In an interview with Good Morning America, the 62-year-old said: “We certainly have bonded together. Certainly having little Ben has been a beautiful kind of glue for us to re-bond after a tremendous loss.”

The Saturday Night Fever star, who is also father to 16-year-old daughter Ella Bleu, previously described Jett’s passing as ‘the worst thing that ever happened in his life’.

Jett is never too far away from the actor’s thoughts. Earlier this year, on the seventh anniversary of his death, John took to social media to pay tribute to his son.

“We have to stop and be thankful for our children, and children should stop and be thankful for their parents. Because, life is very short,” he wrote.
