The death of Kate Spade broke the hearts of millions of people around the world, but it also sparked an important worldwide conversation about mental health.

As a society, we are still struggling with opening up about our mental health struggles. We have made vast improvements in recent years, but the stigma is still there.

People still don’t treat mental illnesses as seriously as they should. Disorders like depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder and so many more are on the rise, as millions of people battle them every day.

When it was revealed that Kate died by suicide, many people were stunned because “she had it all,” but as many people pointed out- mental health affects everyone.

The mum may have been living in the most lavish apartment and was the woman behind one of the most sought-after handbags of all time, but she still suffered from anxiety and depression.

Her husband shared that Kate had been battling many personal demons.

Many weeks have passed since Kate’s death, but the conversation hasn’t stopped. It was recently revealed that The Kate Spade New York Foundation will donate $1 million to suicide prevention and mental health awareness charities.

They shared the touching news on their Instagram account: “In honour of our company founder, Kate Spade, we’re donating to mental health awareness causes.”

They added: “The Kate Spade New York Foundation will also match public donations made to the crisis text line, up to the amount of $100,000.”
