The Overtones singer Timmy Matley has passed away at the age of 36. Fans were devastated to hear of the Cork native’s passing.

 

The Overtones, who are five-piece vocal harmony group, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Twitter this afternoon.

 

“It is with the greatest sadness that we have to announce that our dear friend and brother Timmy has passed away. We know this news will be as heartbreaking for you all as it is for us. We appreciate your love and support at this difficult time. Mike, Darren, Mark & Lachie x”

 

 

Timmy was suffering from skin cancer following a 2016 diagnosis. The singer found a lump in his underarm and was diagnosed with stage three malignant melanoma.

 

Tributes have been pouring in for the 36-year-old following the news of his death.

 

Phillip Schofield tweeted The Overtones, “I’m so terribly sorry to hear this and sending lots of love to you all and particularly Timmy’s family and his many friends.”

 

 

Scarlett Moffatt sent her love to the band, “Such sad news. Sending all my love to you all, friends and family xx”


Former Mrs Brown's Boys star Rory Cowan tweeted, "I’m shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Timmy Matley. Timmy was a funny, sweet guy.”
 

Fans of The Overtones also expressed their heartache, “Absolutely breaks my heart to hear that Timmy Matley has passed away. The Overtones have always had the ability to make me smile on my darkest day.”

 

“So very sad to hear of this passing of Timmy Matley from The Overtones. The world has lost a beautiful voice and person,” another added.

Timmy had organised a 15,000 feet skydive in honour of The Royal Marsden in London, the hospital where he had been receiving his cancer treatment. It was due to take place in May.
 

The Longest Time singer had raised nearly €6,000 for the hospital's charity through JustGiving donations.
 

The circumstances of the singer’s death have not yet been confirmed.
