With wedding season in full swing, many of us will be exfoliating and moisturising to beat the band to ensure we have the proper base for a flawless, natural-looking tan. However, when it comes to applying it, if you are anything like us, it never seems to turn out quite as you'd like it to.

From streaks to patches, here are the six realities of applying false tan:

1. The streaks

No matter what you do, there are always more than a few streaks to deal with.

2. The line

No matter how good you might be a blending your make-up, when it comes to your tan, things are slightly different! A nice clean line that makes your pale face stand out is never a good look...

3. The patches

You desperately don’t want to have dark patches on your knees or elbows so much that you wipe it to the point it comes off, and then you have white patches to deal with.

4. The colour

If you went for the darker colour, you’ll either come out of the bathroom looking like a chocolate bar or very unnatural; if you go for the lighter colour, it can look like you haven’t even made the effort. Either way it never looks like the girl in the picture.

5. Your hands

Even if you wear gloves or are very careful, the palms of your hands can look like you dipped them in melted chocolate or worse. And you’ll scrub and scrub until they are red raw. Ouch!

But still, there is something about a glowing tan that is hard to resist!
