Let's admit it - the highlight of any wedding is the cake. Sure, we enjoy witnessing the bride and groom starting their life together, but we also LOVE seeing a big slice of cake on our plates.

Speaking of which, the royal wedding is set to have some AMAZING confections! Claire Ptak, the owner of London-based bakery Violet, was selected as the dessert maker, and she sounds like the perfect woman for the job.

"Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring," the Kensington Palace Twitter account revealed, "It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers."

With the wedding coming up tomorrow, the baking of the cake is well underway. Kensington Palace revealed just how many ingredients have gone into the baking of the special confection, and we are utterly STAGGERED.

Claire is whipping together 200 Amalfi lemons, 500 organic eggs from Suffolk, 20kgs of butter, 20kgs of flour, 20kgs of sugar, and 10 bottles of Sandringham Elderflower Cordial to make one mind-blowing cake.

The California-raised baker is known for her seasonal and organic ingredients, so it's no wonder she's using so many lovely fresh food items!

She says she feels 'lucky' to get to bake in Buckingham Palace, and that the end product will be a beautiful combination of sweet and tart flavours.

The cake itself will be assembled Saturday morning at Windsor Castle, with fresh flowers added at the last minute to give it a darling delicate touch.

Meghan Markle was impressed by Claire the first time they met when the Suits actress interviewed the pastry chef for her former lifestyle website The Tig.

Claire herself certainly seems thrilled about making the royal wedding cake.

The Insta account for Violet posted, "[Claire and Meghan] both share so many of the same values regarding food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and of course, flavour!"

While we wish we could attend the royal wedding for many reasons, getting to eat this scrumptious cake may be at the top of the list.
