Weddings are great, but not so great when you're pregnant, especially when you’re at the 'just about to pop' stage. While it's easy to not attend, quoting the fact that you are carrying another fully grown person inside you, sometimes you just can’t get out of it and you have to face the inevitable.
Here are 6 of the most annoying things about attending a wedding pregnant:
The standing around
There is so much standing around at weddings: waiting for the bride to arrive, waiting for the reception to start, watching the first dance and general mingling. While this is just about bearable at the best of time, it’s a whole different story when you are eight months pregnant. Yes, we know there are a couple of seats floating around, but sitting down while everyone stands around you can be kind of isolating.
The lack of alcohol
For those who don’t drink, this doesn’t really change when you are pregnant. However, if you are fond of the odd tipple, not being able to drink can really put a dampener on your day. Yes, it will be worth it all in the end, but being the only sober one in a room of merry people can be quite irritating.
The long wait for food
Weddings often involve long periods where there is no food. None, nada, empty bellies. In order to keep yourself and baby healthy and happy you will no doubt have to stuff a few snacks into your handbag. Cue you whipping out a sandwich or bar in the middle of the ceremony – you’re pregnant, you’re allowed. Although, this may cause you to become paranoid that people are staring...
The food again
Looking at the menu can be tough when you realise that nearly everything on it contains some form of soft cheese. Cue feelings that the bride and groom forgot all about you. On the bright side, you do have that sandwich in your bag.
Finding a dress to fit
Weddings require a nice dress for all the photos. However, you refuse to buy a new maternity dress for the sake of one day which means you will have to suffer in a dress you borrowed off someone else or in one that is much, much too small.
Going home early
You will no doubt be feeling tired pretty soon after dinner, so going home early is inevitable. Suddenly the wedding is the best place in the world and you have to drag yourself away from it.
