Sometimes we just need a good series to send a chill down our spine and make all of our hairs stand on end.

Author Gillian Flynn certainly did so with the psychological thriller Gone Girl, and now the miniseries adaptation of her first novel, Sharp Objects, looks ready to creep us out just as much.

The eight-episode miniseries stars Amy Adams as reporter Camille Preaker, who journeys to her hometown to solve the mystery of two girls' murders.

At the same time, though, Camille uncovers her own dark past, Harper's Bazaar reports. We're getting goosebumps already.

Camille's mum, Adora, will be played by Patricia Clarkson, who you may recognise from the 2003 film Pieces of April or as the hilarious mum in Easy A.

Chris Messina of The Mindy Project fame will take a dramatic turn here, and we can't wait to see how he rises to the challenge.

He's joined by Eliza Scanlen (best known for her role in Home and Away), Elizabeth Perkins (from Big), Matt Craven (NCIS), and Sophia Lillis, who was utterly compelling in It.

Gillian wrote the scripts with showrunner Marti Noxon. All eight episodes will be directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, best known for his work in Big Little Lies.

And after watching the trailer, well, count us in!

The miniseries is set to premiere on HBO in July. We'll keep you updated with when it'll grace the small screen near you.
