Kerry is a must-see for nearly every tourist visiting the Emerald Isle, yet so many Irish people never think to spend a day, weekend or week holidays in this spectacular county.

Here are just some of the amazing things you could enjoy – and all just a short journey from your doorstep.

1. Fungie

It’s almost a sin to visit Kerry and not see this famous attraction. Fungie, a wild Dolphin, arrived in Dingle in 1983 and the harbour has been his home ever since. Dingle Dolphin Boat Tours run daily trips and their experience guides know where to find Fungie and how to encourage him to play.

2. Aqua Dome

If you’re going to Tralee, Aqua Dome is one of the largest indoor water parks in Ireland and something that kids will definitely have a great time visiting. With water activities and even mini golf for when you want a break from the water, you definitely shouldn’t miss out on this centre.

3. Gap of Dunloe

Take a cycle (or a pony cart!) through the Gap of Dunloe in Killarney for some amazing views and breath-taking scenery. You can also see a display of original Ogham Stones - the earliest system of writing to appear in Ireland and something many kids will know from their primary school history lessons.

4. Dingle Oceanworld

Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium always guarantees entertainment for the whole family. Get up close and personal with the scary Sandtiger Sharks, have fun with the Polar Penguins and pet the rays and starfish at the Touch Tank.

5. Muckross Pet Farm and Stables

You’ll find Muckross Pet Farm and Stables in a beautiful valley surrounded by Killarney National Park. Kids are given the opportunity to hold and cuddle lots of animals, including puppies, pigs, ponies, emus and more. There is also a nice play area with a slides, tunnels, swings and climbing frames for the kids to play on when Mum and Dad need a coffee.

6. Crag Cave

Located in Castleisland, Crag Cave is thought to be over one million years old. As well as some impressive displays of stalactite and stalagmite formations in the cave itself, the Cave Centre also offers a great restaurant and indoor children’s soft-play area.

7. Star Outdoors

Star Outdoors is an jam-packed activity centre with water sports, archery and hillwalking. If your family loves the water, this offers the opportunity to go sailing, kayaking and canoeing, as well as pedalboat and powerboat rides.

8. Macgillycuddy's Reeks

It will be too tough a walk for younger kids, but if you’re travelling with active teens, the Macgillycuddy Reeks are spectacular and a definite must-see when you visit Kerry.

9. Skelligs Chocolate Factory

Become Charlie for the day and visit Skelligs Chocolate Factory, where you can sample and purchase freshly-made chocolates.

10. Blasket Islands

If you’re holidaying in Dingle, why not get the boat over to the Blasket Islands? You can visit Seal Cove and watch the seals play or spend some time whale and dolphin watching. Whatever you decide to do, Blasket Islands will provide some truly beautiful walks.
