Hilary Duff has been hit with backlash after she pierced her eight-month-old daughter’s ears. The mum shared a photo of her darling girl Banks on Instagram which revealed her pierced ears.
Followers of the Lizzie McGuire star were quick to comment on her parenting decision and many were far from impressed.
Piercing a baby’s ears is always a controversial topic as many believe you shouldn’t do it unless your child is old enough to give their consent.
Numerous users pointed out the dangers of piercing your baby’s ears under Hilary’s post.
“I can't believe someone who seemed so screwed on pierced her babies ears, causing unnecessary pain that isn't for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes. The risks are unreal and that throbbing pain in her ears,no matter how happy and looked after your child is, just isn't justified in my eyes.”
Another asked: “I can’t fathom why you would you think it’s okay to have your daughter's ears pierced. Causing her a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort. Was she able to ask you to have them pierced?”
One added: “Just wondering how she gave you consent to pierce her ears? Unfollowing.”
Others argued that Hilary has a right to pierce her daughter’s ears and stressed that it doesn’t hurt half as much as people claimed.
“Hilary isn't likely to take her daughters earnings out just because a bunch of strangers tell her how horrible of a mum she is for doing it in the first place. There are far worse things parents do to their children,” said one user.
“Piercing the earlobe is just not that painful. It's just a click of the gun that can startle very young kids,” said another.
