A nurse has been credited with saving the life of a baby born via emergency Caesarean-section, after her mother passed away in a car accident.

Ofa and Michael Kinikini were driving in their car last Monday, when the vehicle was involved in a crash with a passenger train.

Ofa, a mother-of-six and due to give birth to her seventh child next month, died in the crash; however, thanks to the swift action of Mindy Simpson, Ofa’s daughter managed to survive the ordeal.

Mindy, a nurse, was walking close to the train tracks when the accident happened, and she pulled Michael free from the car's wreckage.

She then spotted Ofa, who had been ejected from the passenger seat, on the tracks. After finding her unresponsive, Mindy proceeded to carry out CPR until an ambulance arrived.

Sadly, Ofa passed away; but medics were able to safely deliver her daughter via emergency C-section. The tot is said to be in a critical condition right now.

Ofa’s family have hailed Mindy as a hero, with grieving husband Michael crediting her with saving his newborn daughter’s life.

“If she wasn’t there, I don’t think she would have survived. She is a hero, and our family is always going to look at that as her being a hero,” he said.

A GoFundMe page (link here) has since been set up to cover Ofa’s funeral arrangements.

Our hearts go out to the family, and we are rooting for that baby girl.
