Dublin Zoo is one of Ireland’s most popular visitor attractions and it’s a wonderfully fun day out for kids (and adults too) that needn't cost a small fotune! We have lots of great tips for visiting the zoo on a budget.

A good tip for avoiding long queues is to buy your ticket online. Dublin Zoo can be quite busy, particularly during summer months so planning ahead and arriving early are key. You can also purchase a very reasonably priced family pass online or why not plan a group visit? There are reductions for groups of more than ten people which is a great idea for birthday parties or special family days out, check out the ticket prices here.If you’re a regular visitor to the zoo than an annual pass might be worthwhile as it offers free admission to Dublin Zoo and also free entrance to Fota Wildlife Park in Cork, Chester Zoo, Edinburgh Zoo and Paignton Zoo in the UK.

Dublin Zoo is a really great way to keep the kids entertained for several hours but chances are your little explorers will begin to complain of being hungry and a quick bite to eat is usually a necessity! Meerkat Restaurant is worth a visit as kids will get a real kick out of watching the adorable family of meerkats at play while they enjoy their lunch. However, if you’re on a budget a picnic is probably a far more pocket friendly option. There are an abundance of lawns and picnic tables where you can sit and relax while you enjoy a snack or sandwich from home
