Hearts are going out to England footballing legend Rio Ferdinand, whose mother has sadly passed away.

Janice St Fort reportedly passed away earlier today after a battle with cancer. She was 58 years old.

The news was confirmed in a statement released by Rio and his family.

“We are heartbroken to announce that our amazing mum Janice passed away today after an ongoing battle with cancer.

“She was an inspiration to us all, and was loved by everyone who knew her.

“She died at Guy’s Cancer Unit, London Bridge Hospital, with her loving husband Peter and us, her four children, at her bedside.”

Describing themselves as ‘devastated’, the family went on to pay a touching tribute to Janice.

“Our mum was the centre and the heart of our family and has supported us all through many difficult times, always with a smile on her face.

“Her strength and courage, as well as her great sense of humour and immense kindness, were never-ending.”

The Ferdinand family also gave special thanks to the staff at the unit where Janice was being treated, ‘for looking after her so well’.

Rio’s heart-breaking loss comes just two years after his wife, Rebecca, passed away after a battle with breast cancer.

We are thinking of Rio and his entire family at this sad time.
