When a little one enters the world, you want to give them the perfect name, but often you can be left drowning in the many excellent suggestions in baby books and parenting sites.

That’s why we just love to peruse the ‘most popular’ lists – it’s always interesting to see which names are loved by other parents or are coming back into fashion.

If it’s baby name inspiration you’re looking for right now, then may we suggest checking out the following compilation of ‘most popular’ baby names in Australia, from 2015.

The lists were compiled by a research firm which analysed the national Births, Deaths and Marriages data, and it was ‘Charlotte’ and ‘Oliver’ that came out on top.

The lists are surprisingly packed with traditional names, with monikers such as ‘Grace’, ‘Jack’ and ‘Thomas’ making the grade; while there is also a strong royal theme with the addition of ‘William’ and ‘Mia’.

Here are the complete lists:

Girls  Boys
1. Charlotte 1. Oliver
2. Olivia   2. William
3. Amelia  3. Jack
4. Ava 4. Noah
5. Mia 5. Thomas
6. Sophia  6. James
7. Chloe 7. Jackson / Jaxon
8. Emily 8. Ethan
