They have had their fair share of ups and downs throughout their 16-year marriage, but Michael Douglas insists he and wife Catherine Zeta Jones have emerged stronger than ever.

In a new interview, the iconic actor touched on the Welsh actress’ battle with bipolar disorder and how it has affected them as a couple.

The Mirror quotes the 72-year-old as saying: “Catherine was extraordinary. She really took hold of the issue in a way, with due respect, that is not always true of the Brits.”

“In the end, we were able to see the big picture and move on. Now, we’re closer than ever,” he added.

Michael and Catherine’s relationship came under intense scrutiny back in 2013, when a rep for the actress confirmed they were ‘taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage’.

Shortly after, however, the couple confirmed that they were back on track and living together once again.

The actors are, of course, parents to two children together: 16-year-old son Dylan, and 13-year-old daughter Carys.

We’re glad to hear that they are doing so well.

SHARE with a fan of the couple.
