With our bodies, choices and life situations constantly changing, many women may decide to go on and come off the Pill at various different times in their lives. If you do decide to come off the Pill, you should be aware of the possible side-effects for your body.

1. Your weight may fluctuate

Previous research has shown that a third of women lose weight, a third gain weight, and the remaining third maintain the same weight after coming off of the Pill. With weight gain occurring due to water retention and changes in hormones, many find that their weight drops slightly after stopping the Pill.

2. Your breasts may decrease in size

Your breasts tend to get bigger when you go on the Pill, due to increased levels of oestrogen and progesterone, meaning you may notice yours deflating slightly after stopping.

3. You may experience heavier periods and worse cramps

Many women go on the Pill in the first place in an effort to keep the often debilitating side-effects of your monthly period at bay. If you suffered irregularities or bad cramps with your period before going on the Pill, you can expect these to return once you have come off it.

4. Your libido may get a boost

Many women claim that going on the Pill kills their sex-drive, while others experience vaginal dryness from not ovulating. Therefore, if you’re planning on coming off the Pill, you can expect a boost in your libido.

5.You can get pregnant immediately

While birth control such as injections or shots can take a while to leave your system, once you come off the Pill it is possible to get pregnant immediately. This is something that you will want to factor into your family planning.
