Just as going on the contraceptive pill triggers major changes within your body, you can experience a range of noticeable symptoms after making the decision to come off the Pill. The following are some of the most common:

1. Heavier periods and cramps

Many women go on the Pill to ease bad cramps and bring regularity to their periods. The Pill stops your body from ovulating, which is in some cases the root of those debilitating period cramps. So, if you suffered with heavy and irregular periods as well as bad cramps, these may make a return once you are off your Pill.

2. Increased libido

While some women will experience an increased libido while on the Pill, a low sex drive is one of the biggest complaints from women who are on it. This is partly due to the fact that testosterone levels are lowered when you’re on the Pill, and partly due to the lack of ovulation. If you have encountered problems with low sex drive since going on the Pill, coming off it could change things considerably.

3. Return of acne

If you went on the Pill in a bid to control your acne, it may return once you come off it. An increase in testosterone when you’re on the Pill can prevent and quell breakouts, which means that when your hormone levels return to their former state, you could end up experiencing the same problems again.

4. Changes in breast size

The increase in progesterone and oestrogen can result in an increase in size when you go on the Pill, which means that coming off it can cause them to noticeably ‘deflate’.

5. You can get pregnant immediately

No matter how long you have been on the Pill, as soon as you come off it you can get pregnant immediately. While this is not always the case with contraceptive injections or shots, it is recommended that you use a different form of contraception.
