It can be a great idea to book into a day spa as an alternative to a weekend somewhere far away. Day spas can have great relaxation and health benefits, leaving you feeling wonderfully pampered. There is some etiquette that goes with these places of indulgent pampering, so we thought we’d highlight just a few of the what to do and what not to dos.

Don’t wear any makeup to the spa
Arriving with a fresh and natural face is recommended. Wearing makeup will get in the way of some treatments and will most likely be removed anyway before they can be done. The day spa is for you, not to score a hot date, so don’t worry about not having makeup on!

Stay hydrated
At a day spa, you will usually enjoy a steam room, sauna or a massage. These, although fantastic can drain your body of moisture. It is important therefore to drink lots of water and stay hydrated. This is good for your skin also.

Moisturise your skin
In the spa, you’ll be doing a lot of soaking in the hot tub in between treatments. This can dry out your skin so be sure to apply a lot of moisturiser to your skin throughout the day.

Keep quiet
Spas are places of retreat where silence and solitude are respected. Your masseuse will be more than comfortable with the silence, as will anyone across from you in the steam room. Respect the privacy of your fellow patrons.

Communicate what you want from treatments
Your person doing your treatment needs to understand what kind you're looking for and what results you hope to get. Sometimes wanting to be relaxed may be your only goal. They won’t know what you expect unless you communicate it.

Chill out and enjoy
You’re at the spa because your life is busy and you needed a break. So, make sure you enjoy every minute. All your worries can wait until you get back home. Take this quiet time for you; it’ll be over before you know it.

Disconnect from the world
The spa is not the place for your phone. Make sure it’s turned off; no one wants their relaxing massage to be interrupted by a phone going off. They don’t want reminders of the real world during their spa retreat!

Bring nibbles
A day at the spa can make you surprisingly hungry.  If you’ll be there for a while, bring some healthy snacks, such as nuts, fruit and health bars, to keep you going.
