It may come as no surprise to some that Kate Middleton and Prince William didn't take the more modern route and find out the gender of their third baby ahead of its birth - the baby is due at some stage this month - given that they are a traditional couple in the royal family.
Or, perhaps, as is the case with many couples, they just preferred to wait, content to be surprised on the day.
According to E! News, Prince William and Kate Middleton have yet to find out the sex of their third child, reportedly because royal tradition dictates they do not know the sex of their child until it is born.
Kate and William did not know whether they were expecting a boy or a girl for Prince George or Princess Charlotte either according to the BBC.
However, this is not a strict rule, as Princess Diana reportedly knew she was having sons during both her pregnancies, so perhaps they simply want to let fate surprise them?
"William and Kate don't know the sex of the baby so they're rather looking forward to finding out," according to the site. "It's very difficult to be totally prepared when you don't know if it's going to be a boy or a girl."
Baby naming or gender reveal cakes are a popular trend nowadays, particularly in the US, whereas some may just want to know the gender ahead of time for practical reasons when it comes to purchasing all those important baby materials and mulling over names.
Kate is now officially on maternity leave until the autumn.
The busy mum-to-be attended her last official engagement last week, a Team SportsAid event in London. She was spotted out this weekend looking happy and glowing as members of the royal family attended Easter celebrations.
As ever, all eyes are on the mum-of-two as her exact due date isn't yet known.
The countdown to the birth is officially on though and we expect Kate will keep a low profile until her baby arrives.
