Princes William and Harry have spoken for the first time about the moment they found out that their mother, Diana, had passed away.

The princes gave an insight into the very private moment in a new documentary, Diana, 7 Days, which is set to air this weekend.

Recalling the moment that their father, Prince Charles, broke the news, dad-of-two William revealed that he was left ‘disoriented, dizzy and very confused’.

“I remember just feeling completely numb And you keep asking yourself, ‘Why me?’ all the time. ‘What have I done?’” he admitted.

While William was 15 at the time, Harry was just 12. The prince, who is currently dating Suits star Meghan Markle, heaped praise on Charles for his handling of the moment.

“One of the hardest things for a parent to have to do, is tell your children that your other parent has died,” said Harry, now 32.

“But he was there for us. He was the one out of two left, and he tried to do his best and to make sure we were protected and looked after.

“But you know, he was going through the same grieving process as well.”

Diana died on August 31, after the car she was travelling in, in Paris, crashed while going through a tunnel. Her partner, Dodi Fayed, and driver Henri Paul also passed away in the accident.

With the twentieth anniversary of the Princess’ death coming up at the end of this month, William and Harry have bucked royal tradition by sharing some of their most intimate memories from their life with, and after Diana.

Indeed, earlier this year, Prince Harry opened up about just how difficult it was to walk behind his mother’s coffin at such a young age, amid such tragic circumstances.

“I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today,” he said, in an interview with Newsweek.

The Princes are set to honour their mother with a new statue in the grounds of her former home, to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of her death.

They previously unveiled a statute in her honour at the White Garden, at Kensington Palace.

We will certainly be tuning in for the new documentary.
