Following widespread reports that Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett were planning to divorce after 18 years of marriage, the Pursuit of Happyness star decided to break his silence on the ever increasing speculation.

Taking to Facebook yesterday, the much-loved 46-year-old Oscar-nominee insisted that the rumours had no grounding in reality and denied all previous reports.

Acknowledging that he rarely responds to media speculation, the dad-of-three explained that he felt these particular rumours warranted a reply.

Placating devastated fans of the high-profile couple, Will wrote: "Under normal circumstances, I don't usually respond to foolishness. (Because it's contagious) But, so many people have extended me their "deepest condolences" that I figured - "What the hell... I can be foolish, too!" (sic)

In no uncertain terms, the I Am Legend actor refuted all claims, declaring: "So, in the interest of redundant, repetitious, over & over-again-ness... Jada and I are...NOT GETTING A DIVORCE!" (sic)

With trademark humour, the actor who shot to fame on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in the early 90s, insisted that should there be any change in the Pinkett / Smith family dynamic, early reports would come directly from the source.

"I promise you all - if I ever decide to divorce my Queen - I SWEAR I'll tell you myself", he said.

Concluding the Facebook post with the sentence: "Dumb people should have to wear scarlet D's", Will left his followers in no doubt that one of Hollywood's most enduring marriages was set to stay that way.

We're glad to hear it!
