Supporting Ovarian Cancer Knowledge (SOCK) was the brainchild of the late Jane Keating, who wanted to do something positive following her own diagnosis with ovarian cancer. SOCK is part funding a Research Co-Ordinator post in the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit in Waterford Regional Hospital. This will facilitate research into ovarian cancer and assist in the roll out of medical trials to ovarian cancer patients. The charity is also reviewing other projects underway in Ireland.
SOCK’s slogan is ‘Know your body, Know the symptoms’ as the symptoms of ovarian cancer can be very vague and often appear at a late stage. Symptoms are often misdiagnosed, as they can be confused with symptoms of other less severe illnesses, particularly gastrointestinal complaints. Each year nearly a quarter of a million women globally are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. To find out more information on the symptoms of ovarian cancer visit the SOCK website.
