This Easter, Dublin’s only working Urban Farm, Airfield Estate, will have a Junior Natural Treasures Trail Sheet, felt workshop and guided walks exploring the themes of Birds, Nesting and Chicks offering families the opportunity to learn in a relaxed and hands-on environment. Learn all about birds’ nests and eggs at the scheduled drop-in activity station including nest and bird egg ID and guided woodland bird habitat walks on selected dates (April 13th, 14th, 20th & 21st).
Grab a mouth-watering bite in the family friendly Overends Kitchen with their new family roast and child friendly menus or sip on Jersey milky lattes and tuck into baked delights hot off the racks at Airfield’s new Farm Shop and Café serving breakfast and lunch with a new retail area and an intimate Farmers Market all under one roof.
Throughout the Easter break children can pick up a free collectable activity trail sheet created to introduce junior visitors to aspects of birdlife at Airfield.
You will be able to hop on down to the farmyard on Easter Sunday and collect a sweet treat from the Easter bunny.
Get creative with felter and visual artist Niki Collier who practices the traditional textile craft of felting using sustainable materials. On Thursday, April 21st Niki will host a workshop (pre-booking essential) to create a felted stained-glass bird. To book tickets please click here.
Feel free exploring the glorious 38-acre estate and take part in the daily Farmyard Activities including egg collection and Jersey herd milking. Meet the new arrivals – Airfield’s Jersey calves and lambs will be skipping in the fields. Get down and dirty with a garden tour and catch the fascinating display of Vintage Farm Machinery. Take a stroll around the ornamental and organic food gardens, all recently kissed with a spring bloom and pick up some practical tips along the way. Drop by and say hello to Conal and Carroll, Airfields precious rescue donkeys. Immerse yourself in the history of Airfield Estate and the Overend family heritage on display in Airfield House, their original home and partake in an interactive tour. Take in the pop up exhibition Airfield: A Woman’s World showcasing a century of farming, viewing family photographs, letters, original clothing, and display cases with information on their prize-winning Jersey herd, vintage cars and their much-loved Victorian toys and books. Wind down and enjoy a little reprieve at story time.
