Serena Williams’ first match of 2019 is a reminder that a parent’s role never stops.
The tennis star was prepping for the new year’s match when her daughter Alexis Olympia needed some mummy-daughter time.
“As I head into next year it’s not about what we can do it’s what we MUST do as working moms and working dads. Anything is possible,” the pro athlete said.
“I am getting ready for the first match of the year and my dear sweet baby was tired and sad and simply needed mama’s love.
“So if it means warming up and stretching while holding my baby that’s what #thismama will do.”
And that is exactly what Serena did. The mum shared photos of her scooping up her 15-month-old and holding her on her hip during her morning stretches.
Serena then went on to use the special moment to commend all parents, working and stay-at-home, for the tireless strength they show for their children day after day.
“My fellow moms and dads working- or stay home it’s equally as intense- but you inspire me,” she said.
“Hearing your stories makes me know I can do this. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This year is to you!”
She then asked other parents to share their own stories of balancing work and childcare, and fans responses show just how incredible mums can be at multi-tasking.
“Breastfeeding while studying for Real estate courses,” said one mum. “Weaning the first month on the job! (Working 3 jobs total at the time) while parenting 3 kids and husband active duty army.”
“I had to bring my son to class with me as I was working on my degree,” said another. "It paid off in the end as I graduated and my son was getting a college education at five-years-old!”
Serena is such an inspiration to mums everywhere and it’s amazing to see her normalising the working parent life.
