Long time viewers of the X Factor are accustomed to hearing contestants tales of woe as they seek to put their past behind them and focus solely on fulfilling their dreams of becoming a performer.
While many contestants endear themselves to the public for being brave enough to open up about their personal obstacles, many others view the supposed 'sob stories' as nothing more than a stunt to further themselves in the competition.
One X Factor viewer, who also happens to be the father of contestant Anton Stephans, has slammed the 45-year-old aspiring star for fabricating stories about his past.
The competitor from the 'overs' category has been condemned by his father, Kenneth, who is said to be stunned by his son's supposed disregard for fact while appearing on the show.
Anton has told judges, fellow contestants and millions of views that he was separated from his family at the age of seven before being put in foster care - something which his father hotly contests.
According to The Sun, Anton has been untruthful about his past, with a source saying: "No one knows why he is saying things like that. It’s all rubbish."
Picking holes in the performer's story, the source continued: "Anton wasn’t adopted, if he was he’d have adopted parents."
It is understood Anton's family are flabbergasted by the singer's public depiction of his early life, with the insider asserting: "He has been telling stories like this for years and it has finally come back to bite him."
Previously commenting on his supposed troubled past, Anton asserted it was important to focus on the positive, saying: "Those things in our past that are difficult. I don’t know if you truly heal but you learn to live with them."
