Complications of styes

Most styes require minimal treatment and usually clear up within a week. However, in some cases styes may continue to reappear. Blepharitis is a low grade bacterial infection of the eyelids which can sometimes be a reason for your child getting a repeated stye. With this condition, your infant may have red swollen eyelids that may itch and burn. The base of the eyelids may have thin red scales which flake. Both blepharitis and recurring styes can cause scarring of the eyelids. You should consult your G.P. if you think your child could be suffering from blepharitis.
