Organising babysitters and chores around a trip to the beautician is sometimes more hassle than it’s worth, so opt instead for a pedicure at home. It is really simple and all you need are nail polish remover, basin of water, toenail clippers, foot file, foot cream, cuticle cream, toe separator and nail polish.

Remove polish
Start by removing any polish you already have on your toe nails.

Soak feet
Place your feet in the basin of water and leave to soak for about 10 minutes until the skin is soft.

Cut toenails
Use the toenail clippers to cut your nails. Remember to cut straight across and not to follow the curve of the nail. You can soften any sharp bits by filing down the edges with a nail file.

Remove calluses
Next you will need to remove any calluses to ensure soft feet. Using your foot file, file in one direction making sure not to overdo it as you may damage the skin.

Use foot cream
Once you are done filing, massage some foot cream onto your foot.

Remove excess oil
Before you apply any polish, lightly remove any excess oil from your nails by wiping them with the remover.

Paint nails
Push your toes into a toe separator and apply two coats of colour. Leave to dry before moving to prevent any smudges.

Now all you need are new sandals and an excuse to go out.
