New Fujifilm instax mini 13™ Camera Brings Self-Timer Magic to Instant Photos

Between the endless school photos that somehow cost more than your weekly grocery shop and the blurry iPhone shots of family moments that never quite capture what you remember, there's something refreshingly simple about instant cameras. You know, the kind where you press a button and an actual photo pops out like magic.

Fujifilm has just announced their latest addition to the instax™ family with the instax mini 13™ instant camera and it might be exactly what busy mums need to document life's fleeting moments without faffing about with filters or cloud storage.

Following the success of the instax mini 12™ from 2023, this new model brings some genuinely useful features that feel designed with real families in mind. The standout addition? A self-timer with 2 or 10-second options. Finally, a way to get yourself in the family photos without having to bribe the kids to take a decent shot or master the art of the stretched-arm selfie.

Features That Actually Make Sense

The mini 13™ isn't trying to be everything to everyone, which is refreshing. It keeps the popular Close-Up Mode for those inevitable photos of tiny hands holding art projects, plus a Selfie Mirror so you can actually see what you're doing when taking those rare self-portraits.

The Auto Exposure and Automatic Flash Control mean you won't have to think too hard about lighting settings when you're trying to capture that perfect moment before someone has a meltdown. There's also something called Parallax Correction, which basically ensures your photos are actually centred rather than mysteriously cutting off half of everyone's heads.

The lens design is refreshingly intuitive too. A simple twist powers the camera on and off and switches to Close-Up Mode. No complicated menus or settings to navigate when you're juggling a dozen other things.

New Film and App Updates

Along with the camera, Fujifilm is launching a new film variety called Pastel Galaxy. It features cosmic-themed borders with sparkly details that honestly look quite lovely in the sample images. It's the kind of decorative touch that makes ordinary moments feel a bit more special.

The free instax UP!™ smartphone app is also getting an upgrade with improved AI scanning. This means you can digitally save and organise all your instant photos without the app getting confused by backgrounds or other bits in the frame. Quite handy for keeping track of all those precious physical prints that have a habit of disappearing into the depths of handbags and kitchen drawers.

When You Can Get Your Hands On One

The instax mini 13™ will be available in five colours: Dreamy Purple, Frost Blue, Candy Pink, Lagoon Green, and Clay White. Both the camera and the new Pastel Galaxy (the new instax™ mini instant film) will be available from 25th June 2026.

The camera is priced at €90 (RRP - including VAT), while the specialty film will cost €11.50 (RRP - including VAT). Not exactly pocket change, but considering how much we spend on digital photo storage and printing services, it might actually work out quite reasonable for capturing those everyday moments that matter.

As Shin Udono from Fujifilm Europe puts it, instant photography is often people's "first foray into analog photography." For many busy parents, it might be a welcome return to something simpler too. Sometimes the best camera really is the one that's ready when you need it, no charging cables required.
