When you’re in the public eye, certain events such as anniversaries can be made even more painful by the comments and actions of strangers – and this is something that has angered and upset Fifi Geldof.

On the anniversary of her mother Paula Yates’ death, the 32-year-old took to Facebook to send out a very important message to the people who tried to ‘friend’ her on the social media network.

The usually private Fifi wrote: “I will say it once and one only, and I’m making it public so you can all see it and you have zero excuse to do it again. Every year on this date, the eve of the anniversary of our mother’s death, I get a mad influx of strangers requesting an FB ‘friendship’.”

“If you don’t know me, please don’t bother trying to add me. Especially for such disgustingly suspect reasons given the timing. My having a well-known surname and you being nosy isn’t valid reason for us to be cyber-friends. Quite frankly, it’s f***ing weird/ sick/ insensitive/ unkind behaviour and I’m totally bored of it,” she added.

Yesterday marked the 15th anniversary of television presenter Paula’s death.

Let’s hope that the online community can respect the wishes of Fifi and her family.
