While the public waits with bated breath for the arrival of a little Prince or Princess, it seems negotiations are going on behind the scenes as to whether the Duchess of Cambridge, who is believed to be four days overdue, will be induced.

According to The Telegraph, it has been established that Kate Middleton's due date was Thursday, April 23rd meaning that Prince William's wife may opt to be induced this week if she becomes uncomfortable in her current condition.

According to a source whose children were born in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, the same ward Kate is due to welcome her second child, doctors may be keen to induce the mum-of-one sooner rather than later.

Speaking about Kate's options, the source said: "They will probably already have been in touch with Kate and talked about which day would suit her best to go in and be induced if the baby doesn’t arrive in the next couple of days."

Commenting on the option open to the royal, consultant obstetrician and spokesman for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Pat O’Brien, said: "It’s down to the individual consultant as to when it’s appropriate to induce labour, but because it’s such a safe procedure, particularly with women who have given birth before, they tend to be pretty relaxed about inducing any time after the due date if the mother is getting fed up."

Whether or not Kate has decided to take that route has not yet been established, but Dr. O' Brien asserts that it is not uncommon, saying: "We tend not to leave it more than two weeks after the due date, but most mothers are getting pretty fed up once they go a week past their due date."

Kate's first child, Prince George, was three days late when he made his highly anticipated arrival two years ago, so perhaps the public will just have to wait until Kate and William's little bundle is good and ready!
